ic rulebook

Each character will be able to find a copy of the rulebook sitting on the nightstand in their hotel room. A public copy is also available in the form of bulletins pinned to the chapel door. The rulebook contains everything below, as well as copies of all character profiles, and a map of the town adjusted to locations currently unveiled. It ~mysteriously~ updates every week.

Thank you for your participation, and welcome to Lebensbaum, all. If you would please observe the rules and regulations before you, it will make your stay here go more smoothly. Failure to obey certain rules will result in a punishment. All rulebreakers will be publicly named.

GENERAL RULES

• All residents are required to sleep within one of the guest rooms of the hotel. Intentionally falling asleep elsewhere is unacceptable.
ADDENDUM #2 - As of Week 8, no more than 2 residents may occupy a guest room at the same time. 'Occupy' entails staying longer than 1 hour, or entering with the intent of sleeping.
• Guest rooms will be cleaned upon the occupant(s) awakening and leaving the room for the day. Linens will be washed, damage will be repaired, and so on. No changes will be made to personal belongings and clothes.
• Guests may choose to forego cleaning services by placing a sign on their door knob.

• Continental breakfast will be prepared and left in the kitchen at 8AM. Dishes and silverware will be cleaned at noon.
• 10PM is the designated curfew. At this time each night, certain rooms will be closed to all guests until 6AM the next day; this includes the chapel and the pool.

• Destruction of walls or doors is not permitted except in the case of committing a murder or investigating a trial.
• Pendants are not to be removed for any reason. (Fret not, washing will not damage the wood!)
• Violence against Miss Miata will not be permitted under any circumstances. Attempts to attack her will result in immediate punishment.

• Rules may be added at any time. Guests will be notified if this occurs.

PROCEDURE RULES

Basics
• Motives may be given at the start of each week to spur action among guests.
• No individual may kill more than two guests in any given week.
• Once a death occurs, a trial will be found to determine the guilty party. Investigation and discussion time will be allowed prior to the trial and voting. The culprit will be one among a list of suspects provided.
• Each guest must vote for an individual currently residing within the town. No abstentions will be permitted, and attempts to avoid the vote will be punished by death.
• The suspect who receives the most votes will be executed, regardless of guilt.
• Should the guilty party be executed, the guests will be informed of the guilt.

Investigations
• An investigation begins once the body has been found. Once three individuals have discovered the body, it will be announced and the investigation will officially open.
• An autopsy report detailing the condition of the body will be provided.
• All clues found may be disclosed at trial. If a guest chooses to withhold evidence, the deception may be revealed.
• Rooms will not be cleaned on trial days.

Murders & Trials
• Culprits may use any and all available means to commit the crime.
• An accidental death or a killing in self-defense will still be considered a crime.
• The true culprit will be the one who most directly commits the deed. But where there is debate over the true culprit, both directness and intent to commit a murder will be considered.
• It is permissible for a culprit to work with an accomplice. However, retirement will be determined by the number of victims. Therefore, an accomplice will not be able to retire unless there is an additional victim.
• An accomplice will always be listed among the suspects, but only one execution will take place.
• Accomplices cannot retire, however, unless they have directly killed one of the two victims. Assisting in the murder is not enough to count for retirement. Therefore, they may be considered the "second culprit."
• In the cases of "second culprits" two executions may take place.
• In the event of perfect tie votes, all tied players will be executed.

Incentives & Retirement
• Should a culprit successfully commit a murder and scapegoat another guest, they will retire from the procedure.
• Violence against retired guests is not permitted.
• Retired guests will also not be allowed to commit any more murders after their retirement.
• Active guests are encouraged to solve the crimes on a reward system. Guests who regularly participate in trials and socialize may be given certain prizes or be elevated to Key Player status for the week.
• Key Players will have their pendants blessed. This will repel physical damage and ensure them immunity.
• Key Players may still commit a murder and can be considered viable suspects.
Addendum #1 - those holding the Key Player or retired player statuses are not allowed to commit bodily harm against themselves for any reason. You can thank Mister Xerxes for this.
